Big Forest Rally Event Draws huge entry list
Lardner Park Awaits!
As in its inaugural running in 2010, the event will again be based out of the picturesque Lardner Park, Warrigal and host the Media &VIP Rides day, Service Park, Event Headquarters, Super Special Stages and Event Podium. The gonutsforcars.com.au Rally Team successfully completed the recent Akademos Rally after repairs were made to the car from their incident at the George Derrick Rally. The team viewed the event as a test and lead up for Rally Victoria and made some minor adjustments to the car. Bosch ARC crews will contest Heat 1 over 75km’s, consisting of 2 forest stages run twice each and 2 Super Special Stages at Lardner Park on the Friday. Saturday sees the VRC crews (incorporating the Hyundai Excel Series) joining the event and competing behind Heat 2 of the ARC over 150 km’s on 8 spectacular forest stages and finishing off with a final dash around the Lardner Super Special. As a welcome addition to this year’s event leading off at the Super Specials on Friday and the field on Saturday are the “Classics” who are promising to be out in force and put on a spectacular display of cars and crews from yesteryear.
Taylor to step in as Orders claim his prize
The final round of the Australian Rally Championship, Rally Victoria, will see the Australian Junior Champion Will Orders take reigns of the Rallyschool.com.au Subaru WRX as part of his first prize in the 2011 Rallyschool.com.au Australian Junior Challenge. In Orders absence, Summit Rally team must press on. This is where dedicated team mechanic Hayden Taylor will step in to front the team’s Nissan Silvia at Rally Victoria. Taylor, who originally built and campaigned the car back in 2009, is excited to be behind the wheel again; “It’s been a couple of years since I’ve driven this car and it has had a few changes since then so I’m testing on Wednesday to reacquaint myself with the car.”
Young Victorian co driver Correne Seabrook teams up with Taylor for the event and will ensure the crew stay on track. Seabrook is a previous Victorian Junior Champion and she has plenty of experience calling the notes.
This will be Taylor’s first time competing at an Australian Rally Championship event. So with nothing to prove and everything to gain Taylor will “Start out steady and gradually increase speed” he said, “I can’t wait to get out there and compete against the countries best drivers on some of the finest roads in Victoria.” Taylor, currently a driving instructor at Rallyschool.com.au, has been able to keep his eye in with plenty of time behind the wheel of the rallyschool cars. That combined with his previous experience as a Victorian state level competitor he will be looking for a reasonably good result next weekend.
Rally Victoria will be held in the forest around Powelltown and Noojee, north of Warragul, and will include a Super Special Stage in Lardner Park close to the township of Warragul.
Grant Walker Motorsport Escort Set to Fly at Rally Victoria
Classic Rallying in Australia continues to gather momentum as the last round of the ARC championship, based in Victoria, welcomes back former icons, Geoff Portman & Ross Runnalls. This accomplished duo will be thrilling the crowds in the screaming Grant Walker Parts backed Group 4 Escort. Current front runner Stewart Reid will need to be in fine form as Portman intends to find good speed and make final tweaks to the car before the infamous Alpine Rally two weeks later.
Walker Motor welcomes all spectators to view their stunning escort line up and reminisce about the days these awesome machines were winning world rally championships.
